About

# Hi, I’m Brooke.

I’m interested in surfaces, small details, and what emerges when you take the time to really look. For me, casting is not only about form, but about a shared process.

The studio

An artist-led, FLINTA-run sculpture studio exploring the human body through casting.

People usually find us because of me — they want to meet the person who will cast their body, and feel at ease with her. That’s why every project starts with a conversation, and why I take my time with every single person.

Background

## Art, materials & experimentation

I’m Brooke Meenan, a sculptor with a background in painting and interdisciplinary art.

I founded Life Casting Berlin to explore a different approach to casting: working exclusively with water-based materials, with the wellbeing of people and the environment at its heart.

This commitment has led me into an exciting field of material research and experimentation. I continually test new techniques and explore developments in sculptural materials, combining traditional casting processes with contemporary innovation.

For me, how a sculpture is made matters just as much as the finished object.

Process

## How a cast is made

### Preparation

Measurements for the support structure; you arrive shaved on the area being cast; a protective cream goes on first.

### Alginate

A thick layer of skin-safe alginate captures every detail. It does not pull hair and sets in minutes.

### Support

Plaster bandages hold the soft mould in shape. Then it comes off — gently.

### The cast

Filled, freed from the mould and refined by hand over about three months.

Materials

## Safe and water-based

Out of respect for the body and the environment, I work exclusively with safe, water-based materials — chosen for your safety, mine, and the life of the finished sculpture.

- Alginate – skin-safe mould, from seaweed

- Plaster & plaster bandages – support shell and cast

- Water-based acrylic resin – robust, detailed

- Pigment, metal effects, gold leaf – surface finishes

- Ceramic, porcelain, bronze – on request
